Fight Back Against Passage of HJRes 69

Common decency has fled the GOP Congress. We need to call them on it and fight back! The silent voice can be silent no more. We can no longer be bystanders. We must all take action.

1) PHONE CALLS TO THE SPONSORS: Call the three sponsors of this bill and independent Senator from Maine, Angus King, to let them know that you are appalled by their sponsorship/support of such a cruel and inhumane bill. Please keep it civil. Yelling, swearing etc will only hurt our cause.

Lisa Murkowski (AK) (907) 271-3735
Dan Sullivan (AK) (907) 456-0261
Jeff Flake (AZ) (602) 840-1891
Angus King (ME)  (207) 945-8000

2) PHONE CALLS TO GOP SENATORS: Call your own Senator if he or she voted for this bill. If he or she is a Republican, they voted for this bill. You don't even need to look at the roll call list. Phone numbers can be found HERE.

3) FACEBOOK COMMENTS: Leave the following comment on the Facebook pages of the three sponsors:

I am appalled by your sponsorship of House Joint Resolution 69 and Senate Joint Resolution 18, to allow inhumane, barbaric and outdated predator killing methods on our public lands in Alaska. I will work to ensure voters remember who sponsored this resolution.

Lisa Murkowski (AK)
Dan Sullivan (AK)
Jeff Flake (AZ)

Leave the following comment on the Facebook pages of swing state senators.

I am appalled by your vote in favor of House Joint Resolution 69, to allow inhumane, barbaric and outdated predator killing methods on our national wildlife refuges in Alaska. I will work to ensure that voters remember this.

Dean Heller (NV)
Angus King (ME)

4) PLAY OFFENSE.  Every single Republican senator voted AYE on this resolution and every single Democrat opposed it. This is not to say that there are not Republicans who care about the humane treatment of animals but they are clearly not in the Congress. We will never convince the people who voted for this bill to support wildlife advocacy so they must be replaced. We must work to elect more wildlife friendly - or at least less wildlife unfriendly - politicians. That means donating, volunteering, fundraise, sharing posts and alerting larger groups about a candidate. Here are some to support right now. Please feel free to add your own.

Ray Lesniak, wildlife advocacy superhero, is a New Jersey state senator running for the governorship. He has worked to end bear hunting in New Jersey, ban gestational crates, ban puppy mills, and much much more. You will not find a bigger animal advocate running for an office of this level than Mr. Lesniak. If you can only support one candidate, please let it be him. If you can only donate $10 or $20, that is fine.  Donate HERE.

Rob Quist is running to replace Secretary of Interior and trophy hunter, Ryan Zinke, as Montana's representative to the House of Representatives. Democrats can win in Montana and polls show him in the lead. Mr. Quist has a good shot - if he receives the necessary support, which he has not yet. Mr. Quist is a strong supporter of our public lands. Support the campaign HERE.

Look at local and state races. Are wildlife advocates or just plain compassionate people running? Flippable and AdoptAState have other races that can use your support. Please support them in any way you can - including sharing their information with us.

5) LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: I know most of you will want to skip this one but we can provide talking points and even help you write your letter. This is especially important if you have a Republican Senator and especially important in Maine, Arizona, Alaska, Ohio and Nevada. If you live in any of those states, we need your help! Email us at ecouprising2016@gmail.com or PM Ida Bean on Facebook for support.

6) TAKE OUT ADS IN YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPERS: A member had this idea yesterday and, if you are interested in exploring it, we help you figure out how to fund it and what to print. Again, if you live in a swing state or in Arizona or Alaska, this is especially important.

7) SIGN UP AS A STATE CONTACT: For more effective advocacy, we sometimes need to reach audiences in specific states. For that, we need two things: (a) to know in which states our advocates live and (b) have advocates willing to join local Facebook groups (Indivisible groups, wildlife advocacy groups, etc) and share to those groups when something comes up. This does not require you to become involved in person - just join and occasionally share to a Facebook group or message a Facebook page. You can find Indivisible groups HERE and from there, search them on Facebook. If you are interested in being a state contact (again, very minimal commitment), email us at ecouprising2016@gmail.com or PM Ida Bean on Facebook.

8) GET MEDIA ATTENTION: Last night, people were getting creative. Reaching out to environmental groups and media. Keep it up. We need to give this resolution as much public attention as possible. Congress does not want the focus on their votes to kill baby animals and their parents. Contact your local media - newspapers, TV stations, more. Let us know what you do to give others ideas.

9) STAY TUNED FOR AN ACTION ON ALASKAN TOURISM.

10) TWEET:

11) JOIN THE THUNDERCLAP: Support with Twitter or Facebook. It is easy. Just click SUPPORT and the app will do the rest for you. On the assigned day, Thunderclap will post the assigned message (asking Trump to veto) on your Twitter or Facebook account (whichever you use to support). Link to Thunderclap is HERE.

12) SHARE THIS POST AND ALL ARTICLES YOU SEE ON THIS RESOLUTION. Consider joining one or two new Facebook groups. We need to reach beyond our little circle. Make a commitment to wildlife today and don't ever stop fighting.
