CALL TO ACTION: Montana Senate Fish & Game Committee MONTANA RESIDENTS ONLY

THIS ACTION IS FOR MONTANA RESIDENTS ONLY. HJ15, a resolution by which Montana will ask its Congressional delegation to try to delist ALL Montana grizzlies in the US Congress, has moved to the state senate. HJ15 is currently in the Committee for Fish & Wildlife. Please let the Committee know how much public opposition there is to this idea.

EMAILS: Click on the name and it should open up an email. Tell them you oppose HJ15 or copy and paste the following (personalizing the CAPS section):

I write in opposition to HJ15. As a FREQUENT TOURIST TO YOUR STATE TO VIEW WILDLIFE or RESIDENT OF MONTANA or LOVER OF WILDLIFE, I am concerned that HJ15 would undermine the Endangered Species Act by attempting to bypass its processes. This resolution would seek to remove all Montana grizzly populations from the protections of the federal Endangered Species Act without requiring any scientific inquiry into the health of said populations and without input from the public. As I am sure you are aware, the USFWS is currently considering delisting the GYE grizzly population. They have received over 600,000 public comments on this topic, evidencing that the public is enormously interested and concerned about the future of these iconic bears. These bears are the crux of the billion dollar a year tourist industry. Montana should follow the repeatedly successful processes set forth in the Endangered Species Act for delisting animals. Please oppose HJ15.

- Your Congressman or Congresswoman (Find contact info HERE, send to a DISTRICT office))
- Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke (Department of Interior, 1849 C Street, NW, Washington, DC 20240)

International advocates can send a postcard to Trump and Secretary Zinke.

Recruit household members and friends to write postcards too. Members of Congress LOVE postcards from kids! Post photos of your postcards on Wildlife Needs More Than Luck Facebook event and we will end you a free Save the Endangered Species bumper sticker.

EMAIL: Contact forms for Senators HERE, for your Congressmen and women HERE, for Department of Interior HERE. Write, in your own words, why you want the Endangered Species Act to remain intact or copy and paste the following:

I write because I am concerned by the 11 or so bills pending in Congress right now which would weaken or repeal the Endangered Species Act. This law has saved countless species from extinction, including our national bird, the bald eagle. Further, it has a proven track record and process that should not be circumvented or short-circuited. We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction and need to preserve the best tool available to us to slow down the loss of species. Please fight to keep this bedrock of our environmental protection strong.

Senator Jeff Flake is Co-Sponsoring Return of Unethical Hunting Practices

House Joint Resolution 69 has advanced to the Senate and its sister resolution, Senate Joint Resolution 18, has picked up a new co-sponsor! Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona. Senator Flake is considered the GOP Senator most vulnerable to a primary. He is up for reelection in 2018 and is under attack from the left and right - meaning he may be in for a rough 2 years.

People on all sides of the political spectrum oppose the unethical hunting practices set forth in Senate Joint Resolution 18. These include shooting wildlife from aircraft, baiting grizzly bears, killing wolves and coyotes during denning season and killing bear cubs and/or their mothers.

Let's make sure that wherever Senator Flake goes, voters know that this is a man who supports killing mothers and baby animals.

TWEETS:

ARIZONA VOTERS! Ur Senator sponsoring bill to kill baby animals, bait bears, shoot animals from air! .@JeffFlake pic.twitter.com/iI4GJywN2L

EMAIL: Send Senator Flake a comment through his online comment form. You do NOT need to be an Arizona voter. (UPDATE: There are some problems with his website, which hopefully means we are overwhelming it. There have been reports of non-state residents not being able to get through. Please keep trying because people who couldn't get through this morning, were able to subsequently get a note in). Write your thoughts in your own words or copy/paste the script below.

FACEBOOK: Leave Senator Flake a comment on an existing post of his Facebook page, letting him know what you think. Write in your own words (please keep it civil) or copy and paste the following.

IF YOU ARE AN ARIZONA VOTER, PLEASE LET HIM KNOW:

I am astounded that you would co-sponsor a bill rolling back prohibitions on hunting practices that are widely considered unethical. There is no fair chase in killing wildlife from aircraft or bear cubs and their mothers at den sites! The vast majority of Americans - regardless of political affiliation - think these practices are heinous and cross the line. Please withdraw your co-sponsorship on Senate Joint Resolution 18.

Save America's National Mammal from Slaughter

PHONE CALLS: Call and ask to stop the killing of Yellowstone buffalo.

1) Governor Bullock at 406-444-3111

2) Superintendent Dan Wenk at 307-344-2002

TWEETS: Click to Tweet

.@YellowstoneNPS #StopTheSlaughter of our national mammals at behest of ranching industry! Stop killing bison. pic.twitter.com/BhJpPRtAzd

EMAILS:

Please email Governor Bullock HERE and ask him to stop the Yellowstone bison slaughter. If you have a connection to Montana, please mention it. Write in your own words or copy and paste the statement below.

Please stop the killing of America's national mammal in Yellowstone. There are have not been any cases of brucellosis transmitted to cattle and the annual slaughter of these animals takes one million pounds of food out of the ecosystem. Grizzly bears increasingly rely on bison as climate change has decimated other key food sources. When bison are removed from the food chain, these bears turn to livestock. Instead of sending Yellowstone's buffalo to slaughter, please hold animals that leave the park be kept in holding until green-up in 6-8 weeks. This is the right thing to do.

Please email Superintendent Dan Wenk HERE and ask him to release bison captured and stop future plans to slaughter our national mammal.

FACEBOOK COMMENTS: Write your own comment on Governor Bullock's Facebook page asking him to stop the bison kill in Yellowstone or copy and paste the one under EMAILS. Then comment on Yellowstone National Park's page and ask them to release all bison and stop plans for future capture. Please include one of our graphics on Yellowstone's page.
